Care of Poor People, otherwise referred to as C.O.P.P. Inc is a non- profit organization that is dedicated to helping those that are struggling in our community as well as teaching other communities how to do the same!   We aid the homeless as well as people that have housing, but have fallen into hard times and simply need some assistance for the basic necessities to live.

C.O.P.P. has put together on-going community programs and has several  large warehouse events each year that are specifically targeted at providing food and clothing to those in need.   It is through the help and generosity of many volunteers and businesses that these events are put on. Please look through our website to read further about our events and programs to see how you too can be involved with helping those in need in Kansas City!

I have been a bit under the weather lately and the Doctor's tell me I need to stay off my feet for a while, but there is so much to do. So I am asking everyone who can to step forward and help us accomplish the events over the next few months.

One – Freezing for a Reason      On  November 13th 2010

Two-- Survival 10 event              On November 27, 2010

Three-- Homeless Marathon      On or about February 20, 2010

I'm still bound and determined to do the "Freezing for a Reason" event, on Saturday, November 13, 2010. Over the next several weeks, I will be sending out letters to all the various religious institutions in our community  in an effort to get different churches and synagogues and mosques, to have their youth get involved. This is a chance for them to help those in need in our community the poor and homeless of the Kansas City metro area.

First off on Sunday, September19, 2010 at 8 PM we are going to have a phone meeting to discuss how we can bring together all the various religious fractions in our community to do the "Freezing For a Reason" event. The phone number for this meeting will be 1-877-739-4977. This is toll-free number, after you dial the number you punch in code 4977, which will allow you to join the conversation.

It is my hope that area youth pastors from all our religious institutions join us to discuss how we will be able to bring together the youth from all over Kansas City to do an all night event to raise awareness of the homeless problem in our community, and at the same time help us raise funds and materials that we will be handing out on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the Survival 10 Event.

The "Freezing For a Reason" event  will start at 6 PM on Saturday, November 13, 2010 and last all night till six in the morning, the kids will be able to camp out with sleeping bags and make homemade shelters at their various churches , mosques, and temples for the 12 hour period and while their collect materials and funds to help us do the survival 10 event.  It is our hope that with enough media coverage we will be able to collect enough material to save the lives of those hurting on our streets here in the Kansas City metro area by providing the materials that they need to survive winters wrath.

If anyone out there would like to volunteer and help us put together the  Freezing  for a Reason event please give Richard a call at 816 - 920 – 6119 or call his cell phone at 816-918-9239 or give him an e-mail message  at Richardgtripp@yahoo.com

Futher NOW is the perfect time to start collecting materials for us to hand out at the survival 10 event. We will need warm clothes and items like shoes, socks, undergarments,  blankets, coats, hats, gloves, and hygiene materials. Collected materials can be bagged up, and brought to us in November for us to distribute on November 27, 2010 at the survival 10 event.

Helping to find the resources available in our Community

There are so many organizations in our community and other communities that are set up to help low income and homeless families, However many people don't know about them.  This week we are starting to expand our website to be more of an information base for where to find help in the community.  Please check out our "Where to find help" section and tell everyone that you know about it so the word can spread.  So many people out there in need don't even know where to start to turn to find the resources they need, and it is our hope that through the information on this site, that we can help many more people.  If you have suggestions of an organization that should be added to our site, please email our site administrator and let her know.
